Teacher

Erin taught my daughter at my home from the age of 5 to 12. My daughter liked her very much as did I, and she is just what you would want in a piano teacher, friendly, patient, reliable and trustworthy and it goes without saying a talented pianist! Erin discussed with me what my daughter and I wished to achieve as her playing improved (which was not simply that she trudged her way through the exam grades as I had done as a child although she did reach Grade 5) and she varied the content of the lessons so my daughter did not get bored, regularly suggesting new music for her to try, and they also played carols at Christmas and did duets together as well as music theory.  What I liked most about her though is that she was always so encouraging and enthusiastic during lessons, regardless of the stage which my daughter had reached and how much practice she had done (or not done).  I would recommend her without hesitation.   Sara Ramasamy, SW15

Erin is very committed to her role as a piano teacher of which she has over 10 years of experience, delivering the lessons with enthusiasm, encouragement as well as patience, finding great joy in seeing them progress and helping them to achieve their full potential. She believes it is by establishing solid foundations and developing a depth of knowledge and understanding of the subject from the outset that is key to a student’s long term success, allowing them to flourish as confident and independent learners. This is largely achieved through teaching theory of music alongside the practical aspects and focusing on the development of sight-reading skills. However, all lessons are adapted to suit the individual’s needs and interests.

Exams

Erin is very familiar with the ABRSM examination board system, entering pupils, both children and adults for practical and/or theory of music exams. To date, since making her first exam entry in June 2009, her students have achieved a 100% pass rate in their practical exams with an average pass mark of 122/150 (Merit) and for theory exams, passing with an average pass mark of 91/100 (Distinction). However, Erin appreciates that whilst exams do provide goals for students to work towards and give them a sense of enjoyment through achievement, this is not necessarily the most helpful approach for everyone.

Repertoire

Although Erin teaches with classical music foundations, she encourages students to play other music they like too, such as jazz, musical theatre and popular.
